“A long weekend at Glynn Barton Cottages is not like staying at your usual self-catering cottage – it is designed totally and utterly for us – us weary parents with small bundles of relentless energy.

All the hurdles you usually face when going away with young kids, just aren’t there. Owners Shirley and Steve have thought of everything. I guess that’s because they’re the real deal – grandparents who’ve been there and know exactly what young families need to actually enjoy a holiday.”

The Most Wanted Holiday Cottages in Cornwall

    25th August 2012
The prices of these high-end, child friendly cottages drop by about 60% in October. They were fully booked this summer and are almost completely sold in September. In October there are places in Grooms cottage, which has two bedrooms – one with a double bed and another with bunk for children. Cots and high chairs are available on request. There is a fully equipped kitchen and an on-site shop selling frozen home cooked meals and fresh bread. The cottages are made of rugged stone and date from the 18th century. There is a communal indoor heated pool, games room and play area.

Animal feeding is the highlight of a stay at Glynn Barton but its facilities run close behind. There’s a great games room, a small indoor soft-play area and freezers with ready-made meals. There are massages available on site and registered childminders who can babysit. The eight cottages, dating from the 1700s, are in a terraced row, where parents sip wine in the evening and kids play together. Its a 15 minute drive to a beach.

    (Only 2 entries for Cornwall)

    January 2010
There are two ways to decide on your summer holiday this year. You can work through a million brochures and websites until you start feeling vaguely suicidal, then just book the first thing you saw; or you can make up a cup of coffee, put your feet up and let you chief travel writer, Stephen Bleach, guide you through the cream of the crop. Real working farms have their drawbacks — kids love the animals, but they’re not good at looking out for speeding tractors. Which is where a fake one such as Glynn Barton, in Cornwall comes in. It’s 13 acres of safe child-friendliness: there are cows, pigs, donkeys, sheep and chickens, with feeding sessions every morning and an indoor pool, a soft-play barn, toys, a climbing frame, a games room, the lot.

“But what really stood out for me were the impressive facilities for little ones. There’s a fantastic soft-play barn, toddler ride-on area, adventure playground and cosy playroom complete with pool table and a video library for the not-so-little. The cottages manage to be comfortable, with Cath Kidson-style chic, and spacious, despite all our kiddie clutter, yet they’re brimming with everyday necessities, from a built-in safety gate to a child step to reach the washbasin.”

Self-catering with kids can often feel like a con as there’s so much to be done but Glynn Barton really have thought of everything to make your holiday hassle-free.
